Pregnancy

 Summary

According to Dr. Fuhrman, “the real concerns are not microwave ovens, cell phones and hair dryers. The things we know to be really risky for you and your unborn children are:

  • Caffeine
  • Nicotine, including second hand smoke
  • Alcohol
  • Medications both over-the-counter and prescription drugs
  • Herbs and high dose supplements, vitamin A
  • Fish, mollusks, shellfish and sushi (raw fish)
  • Hot tubs and saunas
  • Radiation
  • Household cleaners and paint thinners
  • Cat litter
  • Raw milk and cheese
  • Soft cheeses and blue-veined cheese such as feta, Roquefort and Brie
  • Artificial colors, nitrates and MSG
  • Deli meats, luncheon meats, hot dogs and undercooked meats”

It is very important for women to get their folate from healthy natural plant sources (vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds). The synthetic form of folate sold as a supplement is called folic acid. Folic acid is not the same thing as folate. Folic acid can be dangerous for your health as it increases your change of developing cancer. For more information, read some of the articles below.

Dr. Fuhrman’s Gentle PrenatalNow with Vitamin D3

Multivitamin and Mineral Supplement with Iron

Gentle Prenatal (NOW with vitamin D3 and no longer vegan) is different from other prenatal vitamins because it does not include folic acid; a potentially dangerous supplement that is typically recommended to pregnant women despite the dangers. Gentle Prenatal is the same high-quality product which now includes vitamin D3 to easier meet the vitamin D requirements of pregnant women, without the need for additional supplementation. Gentle Prenatal was developed to meet the needs of pregnant women, with attention to gastrointestinal comfort. The nutrient profile is similar to that of Dr. Fuhrman’s original Gentle Care Formula but with the addition of iron and extra vitamin D. Dr. Fuhrman has thoroughly reviewed the medical literature to verify that the contents of Gentle Prenatal are appropriate to protect against vitamin and mineral deficiencies without being potentially toxic.
